4 years ago the 2006 world cup was about to begin.
The Germans were hosting that competition and I remember getting ready to watch the games with my 'mate' Alan Thomas.
Alan and I both still live in Montreal but for reasons unknown he and I are no longer friends. For similarly unknown reasons his wife and my wife are no longer friends. Such is life.
Back then I was a Technical Support Agent Level 2 at NSB Group. I was working shifts. Meaning I was working Saturdays, Evenings, Sundays, you name it. The infamous 7 - 5 - 7 was a staple of my life and I wasnt happy because when England were playing Portugal on a Saturday afternoon one day... I could only watch the first half because I had to go to work that day.
Fast forward 4 years and I am an IT Manager. Alright Im still doing support on and off for my company but I am the man in charge. I make decisions. I fix things on my own accord and I dont fill in timesheets.
Im also 9-5 monday to friday although this probably wont mean I get to see any more games its just a heck of a lot more convenient for the most part. Im also earning $20,000 more a year. Which is not to be sniffed at. Although I realised today that I did get a tidy 1700 bucks a year extra in pension contributions which I now don't get.
Anyway, im better off and happier. Im also a proud Dad. Alice makes me glad to be me every day of the week. I hate being late to pick her up because its less time we get to spend together each day. For that Traffic be damned, which today it was. Awful! Grand Prix weekend is always like that and I had to do the drop off and pick up for the third day in a row this week even though J is supposed to be doing her share.
