This week. A new citizen.

Wednesday is a biggish day in my life. Something will happen to me that has never happened before and most likely will never happen again. I become a citizen of a new country.

In reality this isnt such a big deal. The test was a cinch. The process easy and inexpensive and the waiting time longish but tolerable. The fact that I am becoming Canadian does not mean I give up being British, it just means I am more a part of the country in which I now live and call home. Canada.

Two things I am going to appreciate about being Canadian.
1) I get to vote or be voted for. As I am not very charismatic I don't think I will ever be elected MP but I do like having the right to vote, my Mum always told me thats important and I believe her. I will vote early and often.

2) I get to go to the US without having to fill out visa waiver/ I98/ Esta/ Green card/ you name it forms, pay for the privilege, go to a small room and be insulted by officer Twatty of homeland security and all the other pains in the arse that are being a Brit trying to cross the border.  The fact that I have lots of passport stamps from this process? not a big deal.

So yeah. at 9am on wednesday I shall be at the Hellenic Centre nr St Justine Hospital desperately trying to find a parking space ....
