Hard Work

This week Ive been working harder than normal. I know this when I realise I haven't looked at lifehacker all day or had a chance to check facebook. I also know it because my head hurts from all the thinking I've been doing.

Whereas before I used to work hard to get a project done on time, most of the things Im doing now are
directly beneficial to my company - in fact all of them are really. In that way I feel like my work is being
appreciated more. Its also benefitting me more too.

For example, today I got my backup server fully up and running and I restored a v2i file from the primary
server, this took patience, time, research and techsavvy. It also cost a fraction of what it could have done
to the less frugally inclined. Its now ready and waiting to spring into action should my primary go down. And if that were to ever happen I would have far far less work to do than if I hadnt done all this prep work.

In other words - a stitch in time saves nine. And me working hard now means I have less hard work to do in
the future. This is the way of the sysadmin/IT Manager I feel. Its a role I've only been doing for 4 months now but one in which I am almost completely comfortable and looking back at what I was doing before I am
so much happier than coding in EPS- GOD I Used to hate doing that!

In other news NHL season opens tonight, I can safely say I care less about the result of this season than I have done in many many years. Since the Halak trade I feel differently, can't say why for now but I do.

Perhaps watching some hockey night in Canada will get me up for it, we'll see.
